Burning Man 2008
Markus was so excited to go to Burning Man for the first time, he climbed in to the RV before we were even done packing it!
My trike all packed up to go! :)
The boys all ready to go play!
Five minutes later, the small boy was sound asleep... and stayed that way all the way to the Hoover Dam!
And... back to sleep!
The drive to Black Rock City is a long, and mostly boring one...
Off in the distance, Black Rock City appears on the playa...
...and we're through the gates!
First time Burners are required to ring the bell on the way through the gates...
...and then roll in the dust. Markus thought we were kidding, but took to getting dirty with great joy!
Home at last!
The youngest member of the Pyro team helping with a demolition test...
Dust devil rising over Black Rock City... the first of many, many we saw...
Domes are the most common architecture in BRC...
Sometimes, art is all about scale.
When it got too dusty, we hid out in the RV... Dust Monkey loved his bunk!
Working on my super secret Pyro costume :)
This year's Temple, Basura Sagrada.
Dust Monkey hijacks Bettie June... and makes another fan!
Making time for homework...
...and absolutely worn out from fun!
Markus did not get to drive the Bummer...
...but he got several lessons on the Mule!
Black Rock City has its own rules...
Dust Monkey finds a special flag at the top of the Man Base for his grandparents :)
Basic calculations in the dust...
Shutting down the tower to begin load-in, Friday night.
0800 Saturday morning - the Pyro crew takes over the Man structure. Don't tell anyone, but we plan to Burn the Man!
Off to a clean start...
...until the dust rolled in!
Like any kid, Dust Monkey loved the chance to ride on one of the city's fire engines.
Most kids don't get the opportunity to drive one!
